My point is this; exams and all the other stuff in your life comes and goes in certain degrees. The Ritz on a Monday will never go. They tried to get rid of it last year but it just came back. If you've been to the 'Love Train' before then you'll vaguely know what I'm on about, but not completely. The place is unrecognisable. Gone is the cliche, and predatory 30 year old women. It's definitely a place for youth, and vigour, all blasting on £1 vodka & Red Bull. There's always someone from your course you don't particularly like there too. They tend to linger in the bowels of the venue, where the toilets and the cloak room are, meaning awkward drunken encounters where one speaks one's mind become increasingly likely. The various mirrorballs and paraphernalia demurely catch the scant amount of light and fire it into the atmosphere. Darkness and the Ritz go hand in hand. A grubby, intensely fun night out if you like your soundtrack heavy but varied. There's always some MMU Radio members in there.
I nearly broke my ankle the first time I went to the Ritz on a Monday night. Seriously, I was a bit tipsy and came out cos I had been revising for an exam all day (it was the next day) and I folded to peer pressure. 'The Passenger' by Iggy Pop came on and I jumped for joy, landed funny, and fell on my ass onto the manky carpet. My friends laughed at me. I went home hammered and in pain and read "Death of a Salesman" which I didn't even refer to in the exam in the end.
