Masta Shak

Real Name: Shakeel Rashid
Age: 19

Masta Shak or simply Shak as put by his friends has had a fairly broad musical upbringing his great-Grandad was a folk singer in his native village of Bangladesh. The trait was passed down from him to Shakeel's father, who set up a cultural society in Bristol. It was only until Shakeel was 11 years old that he started practising the cultural dance of Bengal. His father introduced him to classical poetry from the late Tagore. He then started learning the Indian hand-drums also known as tabla. As time passed however the music began to sway towards UK underground genres such as UK hip-hop, garage and later bassline and grime. It is when alongside DJ Echo, he met via University, did Masta Shak also come to grips with the sounds of dubplate, DnB and heavy bassline tracks, Shak also took a liking for mixing and these genres as well. After several mixes and sets, the collaboration was complete and Masta Shak had a great feel for bassline tracks thus creating the Bassline Chronikalz alongside the Dubplate Destruction show.
