The Film Show

The Film Show at MMU Radio, brought to you by Fay Schofield and Jonathan Barlow, provides you with an overview of the latest releases in the cinema and on DVD, together with a varied musical selection, incorporating a soundtrack of the week, picked alternately by each presenter. The Film Show also aims to keep you informed of film related events in and around Manchester, such as talks, exhibitions, festivals, special screenings, quizzes and information on the Film and Television Society.

Jonathan Barlow

From a very early age Jonathan Barlow was raised on a healthy aural diet of Alistair Cooke, John Humphreys and John Peel. Any benefits that may have been gleaned from this happy time were usurped by dark mutterings from peers pertaining to a projected quality of broadcasting on mainstream pop stations. A time of great confusion followed, in which some solace was sought in the world of cinema. When his enforced education was complete, Jonathan found that he could now study Film (and it was still proper education, with a proper certificate, a proper qualification and everything!). By not pursuing his love of film to degree level it would appear that Jonathan is living a lie as a history student. But an unfulfilled cinematic passion expressed itself in the concept of a self-hosted radio show of film criticism. Teaming up with a like-minded ally in Fay Schofield, The Film Show was born. A glimmer of the disparate inner workings of this dilapidated mind can now be glimpsed at on The Film Show.

Fay Schofield

Fay Schofield is in her first year at Manchester Met studying film and media. Originating from Yorkshire she may seem stuck in her ways, especially when it comes to films. Fay likes anything with a cheesy quality about it, especially if its Disney related, and will often have heated arguments/mindless sessions of abuse with Jonathan regarding their varied film tastes. In stark contrast with Jonathan, the first film Fay saw at the cinema, and one that remains her favourite, is The Lion King. By always possessing a love for film and been able to talk the hind leg off a donkey The Film Show seemed the right place for Fay to abide.
